Dog Walker – Job Description

Summary:
A Dog Walker is responsible for ensuring the safety, exercise, and well-being of clients’ dogs during scheduled walks and visits. This role involves following specific care instructions, providing companionship, and maintaining reliable communication with pet owners.


 

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely walk dogs according to scheduled appointments (individual or group walks).

  • Follow owners’ instructions regarding routes, pace, behavior management, feeding, or medications.

  • Ensure dogs’ safety at all times, including proper leash handling and awareness of surroundings.

  • Clean up after dogs during walks and visits.

  • Provide fresh water, treats, or meals as directed.

  • Monitor behavior and health issues; report concerns to owners promptly.

  • Transport dogs securely if travel is required.

  • Maintain accurate records of completed walks, time spent, and any incidents.

  • Build positive relationships with clients and pets through dependable service.


 

Qualifications & Skills

  • Genuine love and understanding of dogs and their behaviors.

  • Ability to handle dogs of all sizes and temperaments.

  • Good physical stamina for walking multiple dogs per day.

  • Reliability and strong time-management skills.

  • Basic knowledge of pet first aid (preferred).

  • Strong communication and customer-service skills.

  • Valid driver’s license (if transportation is required).

  • Background check may be required.


 

Working Conditions

  • Outdoor work in various weather conditions.

  • Flexible scheduling—may include mornings, evenings, weekends, or holidays.

  • Potential for exposure to loud barking, pulling, or dogs with behavioral challenges.
